Jamalucy hounds: December 2005

Today, my husband and i met with another volunteer with basset hound rescue of alabama to get a pair of basset hounds girls to their new forever home. After talking with the other volunteer, i found out that the family was quite happy with their girls and they are going to the grandson's birthday party. What a rewarding day.
Also, for those looking at this blog, anyone wanting to go to a nice honest restuarant in Alabama, check out Bates House of Turkey in Greenville, Alabama. They have nice honest workers in there and they should be honored with our business.
Happy New Year folks. this is new years eve. God has been good to us and we should be thankful.

Jamalucy hounds

Today, i helped with transporting several basset hounds to either their new foster spaces or to their new forever home. It is quite rewarding to see sweet bassets get loving homes even if it just to nice foster homes.
One of the foster hounds we have cared for went to the vet to have his abcess evaluated before he was to travel to his new foster home. It was determined that he needed surgery to have this site debried so it would heal good. It just wasnt healing but was getting worse. When he is well enough to travel, he will go to a very loving foster home in south alabama.

our other pets

We also have 4 cats, one more dog, and 2 horses.
The cats are Punkin, Harley, Hobo, and Mia. All the cats but one are rescues from my work.
The other dog not mentioned in the earlier post is Jessie, our mixed rottweiler. Jessie loves to go fishing with my husband. If you mention the word, "fish", Jessie goes nuts and jumps all over the hubby to let him know she wants to go. She rides in the boat well and likes to lick the fish that he catches.
The horses are Rose, an appaloosa mare and Hacksaw, a walking horse gelding.
I raised Rose from birth. Hacksaw was bought about 11 years ago and both will stay with us for life. They are both about 18 years old.

getting involved in basset hound rescue

I work as an animal control officer. In my duties, i came across a basset hound that the owner didnt want and when rescue couldnt take her, she was turned out of her fence. The man that was my seargent at the time called to let me know about this dog on a saturday. So when i got to work that monday, i went to rescue this female basset hound immediately. She was taken to a vet's office where we housed the animals. When her 7 days were up for her owner to redeem her, one of the volunteers with Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama www.bhra.org went to the clinic to get her and take her to the vet they used to have her spayed and any other vet work needed. That dog was adopted a couple of months ago and is now a very happy girl. This all took place in the spring and summer of 2004.
Just this past summer my husband wanted to become more involved so we increased the size of an inclosure used for goats and made it a nice kennel area that we call Camp Good Hope. We now have 12 runs that are used for feeding or if necessary for one that is agressive with other dogs. Since he constructed this fence, we have taken in somewhere near about 40 hounds that have since either gone into foster homes elsewhere or been adopted. Two of those dogs were adopted by us. One other that was our own foster was also adopted by us. So this makes us proud slaves to 4 basset hounds. The one not mentioned as one of our fosters, when i was asked to get her from a vet from being spayed and going into rescue, i just paid her vet bill and kept her.
These hounds are named, Lucy, Jaime, Devon, and DaisyBelle.
